Kumiko Shiina

Kumiko Shiina, Ph. D, Professor and Division Manager of the Research Division as well as Deputy Director of Test Development and Academic Activities at the National Center for University Entrance Examinations.

Dr. Shiina received her Ph. D. in General System Studies from the University of Tokyo. Her research interests involve the evaluation of spatial ability, strategies for solving spatial problems, and educational measurement. She has made significant efforts in accumulating evidence to support the interpretation of spatial test scores.

Her talk “What Abilities are Reflected in Spatial Test Scores?“ will focus on various evidence of abilities reflected in spatial test scores. Her research papers have been published in academic journals such as the Journal for Geometry and Graphics and the Journal of Graphic Science of Japan. She won the Japan Society for Graphic Science Award in 2024. She served as vice president of the International Society for Geometry and Graphics from 2021 to 2024, and has contributed to several ICGGs as a member of the Program Committee.
